The project brief was to produce a car key fob for the Dacia Bigster while implementing emerging technologies to design three new features compared to the car's existing fob.
To align with the Dacia Bigster's function of being an SUV intended for use on more extreme, off-road terrain, the fob needed to have a more outdoorsy and rugged appearance and function. This is why the design has a bulky outer casing made from TPE to protect the key from knocks and scrapes it may endure.
The key must incorporate the new Dacia logo to align the key with the Dacia brand. You can see the Dacia logo in our more developed iterations of the design as the “x” like shape, which runs around the key’s circumference.
A survey was conducted, and the responses suggested that a function that may appeal to the target market is for the fob to have some form of illumination, so it can be easily seen and read in poor lighting conditions. The design features a LED touchscreen to enable this.
Other features are for the fob to enable to car to key communication, which would allow the user to view on the fob’s screen the car’s battery and fuel levels, whether the car doors are locked or unlocked, the ability to turn on the car’s air conditioning system and window de-icing system remotely, as well as a “compass” GPS function, to enable the fob to display an arrow on the screen which accurately points in the direction of the user’s Dacia Bigster
